The role

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Communications and Outreach is responsible for managing and promoting the brand image of the YMCA of Québec to both internal and external stakeholders, strengthening awareness and understanding of its social impact.

This is a key role within the organization, requiring a strong ability to understand cross-functional challenges, simplify complex issues, and influence effectively. The Director acts as a trusted advisor to their team, peers, directors, and senior leadership.

As an inspiring leader, the Director will develop and implement strategic communication approaches, structure work processes, and guide a team of internal communication professionals. This person will also be responsible for selecting, directing, and collaborating with agencies, external partners, and freelancers to help achieve the organization’s objectives.

The right fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in organizational communications, public acceptance, change management, public affairs, or related fields;
  • At least 4 years of experience leading a team;
  • Proven track record in external communications, including public relations, issue management, positioning, crisis management, and media relations;
  • Successful experience in developing and implementing internal communication strategies within an organization;
  • Demonstrated success in strategic communications planning to promote a brand, cause, or service;
  • Strong project management experience and expertise in developing communication tools such as annual reports, press releases, infographics, videos, events, corporate advertisements, websites, and other digital content;
  • Experience in budget management;
  • Background in multi-site environments within the public, governmental, institutional, or other complex ecosystems;
  • Previous experience serving as a corporate spokesperson.
