The role
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the leadership team, the Director of Philanthropic Development and Public Affairs plays a key strategic role in the growth, positioning, and visibility of Les Amis de la montagne.
The successful candidate ensures the integration and alignment of strategies related to philanthropy, partnerships, institutional communications, public affairs, and the promotion of Mount Royal’s interests, all in support of the organization’s mission and priorities.
The person in this role leads a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 employees and acts as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director, the President, and the Board of Directors. They will orchestrate an integrated approach aimed at transforming engagement with the mission into tangible, sustainable, and measurable support across philanthropic, institutional, and civic spheres.
The right fit
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, philanthropy, administration, non-profit management, political science, urban planning, environment/sustainable development, or any other related field;
- Strong experience in philanthropic development, including individual giving, major gifts, foundations, corporate partnerships, and/or structured fundraising campaigns;
- Demonstrated experience in revenue growth and structuring, with the ability to diversify funding sources and transform relationships into sustainable financial support;
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams (communications, philanthropy, public affairs, or marketing) and implementing collaborative processes;
- Strong background in institutional communications and strategic positioning, including media relations, strategic writing, reputation management, and public messaging;
- Experience in public affairs and institutional relations, particularly within municipal, governmental, or parapublic environments, with the ability to navigate politically sensitive contexts;
- Proficiency with philanthropic tools and processes, including CRM systems (or donor and relationship management systems), donor stewardship, reporting, recognition, and compliance;
- Strong understanding of the Montreal ecosystem (philanthropic, institutional, environmental, economic) and the ability to leverage a strategic network in support of impactful initiatives;
- Hands-on experience working with a Board of Directors, including preparation of decision-making materials, strategic follow-ups, accountability processes, and support for ambassadorial roles, considered an asset.
