The Conseil de presse du Québec (CPQ) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect freedom of the press and defend the public’s right to quality information. To fulfill this mission, it acts as an honorary tribunal by reviewing complaints deemed to be in the public interest in Quebec, while also serving as a leader in journalistic ethics for journalists and news media organizations.

The role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Secretary General is responsible for the day-to-day management of the CPQ’s human, material, and financial resources. The successful candidate will ensure the organization maintains a high level of credibility with media organizations, journalists, and government stakeholders.

The individual will play a key role as the primary advisor to the Chair and the Board of Directors.

The right fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related discipline;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the media industry, or a strong understanding of the Quebec media ecosystem and the challenges it faces;
  • Between 5 and 10 years of experience managing multidisciplinary teams;
  • Strong material and financial management skills;
  • Solid understanding of the principles and standards of journalistic ethics, along with a demonstrated appreciation for their importance through professional experience or prior involvement;
  • Experience in an advisory and governance role, including presenting opinions, recommendations, or interpretations to various internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience acting as an organizational spokesperson or participating in media interviews or public discussion panels;
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors;
  • Bilingualism required.
