The company

L’Arrêt-Source is the only long-term shelter in Montreal dedicated to women aged 18 to 35 who are experiencing or have experienced violence, with a capacity of 25 residents. For over 40 years, the organization has supported women affected by various forms of violence, including family, intimate partner, sexual, honour-based, and other forms of violence.

L’Arrêt-Source’s mission is to provide long-term support services, extending beyond three years, tailored to women’s needs, with a focus on empowerment and greater social inclusion.

The organization offers first-stage shelter, second-stage apartments, and external support services available to women of all ages within the community.

The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Assistant Executive Director will support the strategic, operational, and overall management of the shelter. She will play a central role in overseeing operations, managing staff, developing and implementing policies, and supporting residents, in alignment with L’Arrêt-Source’s approaches.

With collective well-being at the heart of her actions, the Assistant Director will ensure that the organization’s mission, philosophy, and policies are upheld, carrying out her responsibilities in alignment with values of openness, respect, solidarity, empowerment, and physical and psychological safety.

The right fit
  • Graduate-level university degree in organizational management, community development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience within the community or social services sector

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in feminist intervention, including supervisory or clinical coordination responsibilities, ideally within a shelter setting

  • Demonstrated strengths in team management, leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving

  • Experience in grant writing and in developing public and private funding

  • Strong knowledge of the health and social services network, as well as the realities of the community sector

  • Proficiency in Office 365

  • Knowledge of laws and policies governing non-profit organizations in health and social services, considered an asset

  • Financial management knowledge, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and resource development, a strong asset

  • Understanding of issues related to violence against women

  • Understanding of borderline personality disorder, considered an asset

  • Functional knowledge of English
