The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director is responsible for translating business opportunities into successfully executed mandates. This pivotal role serves as the primary lead for client relationships and operational performance, ensuring a balance between organizational commitments, team capacity, and growth objectives.

The incumbent oversees a portfolio of strategic mandates and clients, supervises project managers, and manages workload and resource allocation challenges. They play a key role in overseeing operations, managing budgets, and allocating resources across both grant-funded and client projects.

Working closely with the Executive Director, they contribute to strategic planning, the development of new business opportunities, and the expansion of existing markets. This position requires the ability to combine strategic vision, operational excellence, and relationship-driven leadership to strengthen Votepour.ca’s institutional presence, recognition, and impact.

The right fit
  • University degree in public administration, communications, political science, or another relevant field;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in operational management and business development within a nonprofit organization or a strategic transformation environment;
  • Proven track record in prioritizing portfolios of strategic mandates and clients, while successfully leading multiple projects in collaboration with teams;
  • Experience supervising project managers and managing workload distribution and resource allocation challenges;
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation for grant-funded projects;
  • Experience coaching teams and strengthening interpersonal and strategic competencies;
  • Knowledge of the municipal sector or regional development, as well as governance issues, to effectively align mandates with strategic objectives;
  • Proficiency in financial planning tools and operational performance analysis;
  • Experience managing complex or sensitive client situations;
  • Experience identifying and developing new business opportunities, expanding existing markets, preparing service proposals, and delivering client pitches.
