During the Leadership au féminin event hosted by the Chambre de commerce de Québec, La Tête Chercheuse had the privilege of acting as a partner and leading an icebreaker activity that brought together over 250 women leaders. Through a set of questions designed for the occasion, participants were invited to go beyond titles and career paths, to spark real conversations and uncover what doesn’t appear on a resume.

At La Tête Chercheuse, we strongly believe that a resume only tells part of the story.

A resume outlines a career path, but it doesn’t always reveal the person. It is the questions we ask that truly uncover what makes the difference: motivations, values, the ability to grow, and leadership.

Knowing how to ask the right questions is a true superpower. A lever to recruit better, manage better, and most importantly, understand better.

It is in this spirit that we developed, for this event, a series of questions designed to open dialogue and bring forward what truly matters.

Here are the 15 questions that sparked meaningful conversations:
  • In your work, what is the last thing you learned?
  • What is the biggest risk you have taken in your career? What would you do differently today?
  • In a professional context, if I asked your harshest critic to describe you, what would they say?
  • What core value guides your professional and personal life?
  • By nature, do you prefer to be liked or respected? Why?
  • How much importance do you place on intuition in your decision-making?
  • Why do people enjoy working with you?
  • Why might a team find it challenging to work with you?
  • Tell me about the last time you changed your mind or direction on a decision. What were the results?
  • What doesn’t appear on your resume that would help us better understand who you are?
  • What do you do in your work that makes you lose track of time because it excites you so much?
  • In your opinion, what percentage of your life do you truly control?
  • What are the three words that best describe you professionally?
  • If you were 18 again, what career would you choose?
  • What does happiness mean to you?

These questions are not just for interviews. They can transform team discussions, enrich management conversations, and create more authentic connections.

Because ultimately, recruiting differently starts with asking questions differently.
