The Musée national de l’histoire du Québec (MNHQ) is a unique project dedicated to creating a state museum, offering the opportunity to contribute to the development of an institution that will leave a lasting mark on Quebec society.

Its mission is to promote the history, culture, and identity of the Quebec nation, strengthening the sense of belonging. The museum aims to actively participate in contemporary discussions and develop a national and international presence. The MNHQ’s mandate is to showcase and promote the history of the Quebec nation, its evolution, culture, and distinct identity, while also recognizing the contributions of First Nations and Inuit. The museum aspires to play a key role by building strong connections with Quebec’s museum network and ensuring Quebec’s presence on the international museum stage through acquisitions, exhibitions, and various engagement activities.

The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programming will play a key role in the creation and launch of a new national museum that will be an integral part of Quebec’s history and identity. In this role, you will help define and implement the museum’s curatorial and editorial vision, ensuring a diverse, innovative, and high-quality programming.

This opportunity allows you to be part of the first leadership team of the Musée national de l’histoire du Québec, contributing to the creation of its organizational culture.

In a pioneering context, you will have the chance to design and deliver compelling exhibitions that connect Quebec’s history with contemporary issues, while strengthening collective identity.

The right fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in cultural organization management or a graduate degree in management, administration, or a relevant related field;
  • Proven experience in budget management and resource optimization;
  • Ability to mobilize and engage a multidisciplinary team;
  • Expertise in developing and producing exhibitions, from concept to final installation;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Strong knowledge of history (an asset);
  • Experience working in the cultural, historical, or heritage sector (an asset);
  • Interest in museum trends and integration of innovative practices in exhibitions and activities (an asset).
