The role

Reporting to the General Manager of News, the Director of Journalistic Policies ensures the evolution, visibility, and application of Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. The incumbent will analyze and address complaints submitted by citizens to the News Division or to the Radio-Canada Ombudsman.

The individual will also act as an advisor to senior News leadership on the interpretation of Journalistic Standards and Practices and on the development of editorial policies. The role includes supporting news teams, and when required, other sectors of Radio-Canada. It also involves collaboration with CBC counterparts performing similar functions.

The right fit
  • University degree in Journalism or a related discipline;
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in journalism, including content production for radio, television, and digital platforms;
  • In-depth knowledge of Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP) or an equivalent ethical framework;
  • Expert understanding of journalistic processes: gathering, verification, validation, editing, and distribution of content;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze journalistic content and assess ethical compliance;
  • Experience drafting editorial opinions, decisions, formal responses to complaints, or policy documents;
  • Strong knowledge of the media ecosystem, applicable laws, editorial obligations, and industry standards;
  • Ability to manage complex files, including compliance, ethical, or public complaint issues;
  • Experience in an advisory role to editorial teams or leadership, including presenting opinions, recommendations, or interpretations to internal and external stakeholders.
