The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is responsible for the sound financial and administrative management of the organization. They ensure the accuracy of accounting processes, the production of financial statements, and compliance with current standards. They play a strategic role within the management committee and work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to support the organization’s strategic directions.

The role includes supervising the finance and administration team, overseeing budget follow-ups, coordinating internal controls, and preparing documents required for external audits. The Director is also responsible for payroll processes, regulatory compliance, and updating management policies.

The right fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in administration with a specialization in accounting or finance, or any other relevant combination of education and experience;

  • At least 7 years of experience in administration, accounting, or financial management, ideally in a non-profit or mission-driven organization;

  • Team management experience;

  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting, and resource development;

  • Experience preparing, monitoring, and adjusting annual and multi-project budgets with diverse funding sources;

  • Ability to produce financial reports for funders, governments, boards of directors, and external auditors;

  • Experience presenting financial data and contributing strategically to management committees and boards;

  • Knowledge of Acomba, advanced Excel (functions, pivot tables, automation), Word, and FileMaker Pro (an asset);

  • Experience in planning and managing material resources (furniture, real estate, moves, renovations, maintenance, improvements, etc.) is an asset;

  • CPA designation (or in progress) is an asset;

  • Experience in a unionized environment and involvement in collective agreement negotiations is a strong asset.
