Wapikoni is a one-of-a-kind organization that provides a space for expression and creation for Indigenous peoples. Through audiovisual creation, Wapikoni has, for the past 20 years, contributed to the personal, creative, and professional development of First Peoples and to the empowerment of their communities.

Since 2004, Wapikoni has produced over 920 musical creations, more than 1,400 short films of all genres, and has received over 240 awards and distinctions for its collective of artists.

Each year, a selection of films created through their Mobile and Virtual Studios is chosen to be part of their annual showcase. These films stand out for their cinematic and narrative quality, as well as their universal appeal.

The role

As the Executive Director of Wapikoni, you will be responsible for the overall management of the organization, the implementation of its mission, and strategic development. You will work closely with the Board of Directors, internal teams, as well as community and institutional partners.

The right fit
  • University degree in a relevant field (such as political science, public administration, human rights programs, or Indigenous policy), or equivalent professional and volunteer experience;
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a non-profit organization, ideally in a cultural or community-based environment;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in team management and leadership (including performance management and skills development);
  • Knowledge of financial management (budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reporting, processes, operations);
  • Experience in fundraising (sponsorships, grants, financial partnerships, fundraising campaigns, etc.);
  • Experience in governance (board meetings, follow-ups, dashboards, reporting, etc.);
  • Experience in public relations (public speaking, representation, media relations, government relations);
  • Experience in identifying and implementing service development initiatives;
  • Good knowledge of the cultural sector;
  • Strong understanding of the issues and realities of First Peoples, and a deep commitment to their cultural and social well-being.
