I never studied human resources, but today 75% of my time is devoted to human resources! It\u2019s a gift for me to see these ambitious young people grow up, but it\u2019s not always easy, and it upsets me from time to time. Sometimes I feel like a cheerleader for my employees\u2019 happiness, and that\u2019s not easy every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThat\u2019s 100 fewer hours worked per year in the last 30 years!\u201d \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/monsieurgustave?miniProfileUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afs_miniProfile%3AACoAAADLAXsBdPotRP2g63Xa8aVOEF4-LYiHaxU&amp;lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_search_srp_all%3Bi0U14lsfTCWilXJl5RC1xg%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francis Gosselin<\/a>, Consultant, economist and speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the 1980s, people have been working less and less. It\u2019s a matter of a quarter-hour a week, but year after year, people are working less. Around the \u201980s, people in Canada were working an average of 1,900 hours a year. In Quebec, it was a little under that, around 1890 hours. That\u2019s 100 hours less worked per year over the past 30 years! It\u2019s imperceptible, and the phenomenon will continue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address>According to Statistics Canada: At the beginning of the 20th century, workers generally worked 60-hour weeks spread over 6 days. By 1960, a 5-day week of 37 to 40 hours had become the norm, since established by custom or collective bargaining. This standard is further reinforced by laws which provide for additional pay for hours worked over a certain threshold. But we also have to take into account the recent increase in jobs with short working hours (part-time jobs).<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cToday\u2019s young people don\u2019t want to be evaluated on opinions.\u201d \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sheila-morin-60746323?miniProfileUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afs_miniProfile%3AACoAAATfXacBpts5wKmF1jjligAQKjESAozYAFc&amp;lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_search_srp_all%3BfzcsFnTvRbqYe8KwI5yDfA%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheila Morin<\/a>, CMO, Corporate Marketing, Coveo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOKRs (Objectives and Key Results) are a method that is part of the company\u2019s values. [\u2026] For our employees, it\u2019s a beacon, a framework and benchmarks that enable them to evaluate their work on a basis that\u2019s not intangible. Employees at Coveo don\u2019t want to be evaluated on opinions or intuition, they want it to be clear and precise and for us to be able to track their work in a very quantitative way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address>OKRs include an objective \u2013 a clearly defined goal \u2013 and 3-5 key results, specific measures used to track the achievement of that objective. The aim of the OKR is to define how to achieve the objectives through concrete, specific and measurable actions.<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cMore than 66% of millennial and Generation Z workers think their employer depends on them more than the other way around.\u201d \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/philippe-l%C3%A9ger-6821a9151\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philippe L\u00e9ger<\/a>, columnist and journalist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we ask the question: \u2018Who do you think depends more on each other, the employer or the worker? \u201d Over 66% of millennials and Generation Z workers will answer that their employer depends more on them than the opposite. It\u2019s a paradigm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address>Philippe L\u00e9ger took part in 6 editions of L\u2019\u00e9tude Jeunesse imagined by L\u00e9ger, calling on 3,000 respondents (Generation Z and millennials) to answer these surveys about their future, employment or their expectations of their employer.<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re often told: \u201cWhat\u2019s the point of coming to work side by side in the office? \u201d \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/maximedubois?miniProfileUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afs_miniProfile%3AACoAAABdxXABoZI34GZEulUeIIxlzXbKkn-Dsp8&amp;lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_search_srp_all%3BItt8RSweSfKcsOl6TGa66A%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maxime Dubois<\/a>, Co-CEO, Altitude Sports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a company built around a mix of tech and retail, so we have different profiles within the company. We\u2019re 100% hybrid, and to create cohesion, we have activities that are close to our values (sport), such as outdoor activities. [\u2026] We\u2019re often told: \u201cWhat\u2019s the point of coming into the office to work side by side? Let\u2019s face it, when you do everything by teleconference, everything\u2019s a bit more complicated. One thing\u2019s for sure, we\u2019re not quite there yet when it comes to telecommuting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address>Source: Regroupement des jeunes chambres de commerce and L\u00e9ger survey on the job market and the needs and expectations of 16-35 year-olds: While half of young professionals (51%) have the opportunity to telework, 42% do so, even if only occasionally. On the other hand, 49% do not have the possibility\u0301 to work from home.
