A leading artist residency for Canadian opera singers and lyric pianists, the Atelier is a collaborative professional development springboard in the heart of the Opéra de Montréal. The Atelier lyrique’s mandate is to provide professional training for emerging Canadian opera artists, combining training and stage experience, with the goal of ensuring a future for the opera world. Unique in Quebec, the Atelier is the only program in Canada to train its artists in both French and English, a tailor-made program that is inclusive and respectful of diversity, allowing its artists to make their first contact with professional life, expand their network and begin their professional integration in a stimulating and enriching environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, in collaboration with the Artistic Director, and the senior management team, the Director of the Atelier Lyrique develops and directs all program activities in accordance with the artistic mandate and vision set out in the OdM strategic plan. The Director defines and executes training programming in collaboration with the staff and core faculty, directing the program’s artists-in-residence and all guest instructors/coaches and collaborators.

The Must-Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in music;
  • Excellent knowledge of voice, vocal technique, and opera repertoire;
  • Strong knowledge of the local, national, and international opera landscape;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a similar position in the artistic and pedagogical field;
  • Proven strategy development and planning skills;
  • Experience in budget management;
  • Excellent written and oral skills in French and English;
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software tools, including: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
