Canadian Journalism Collective
The Canadian Journalism Collective (CJC-CCJ) is an independent organization created by and for Canadian media. It ensures the fair and equitable distribution of the $100 million allocated annually by Google to media organizations across the country.
Born out of the Online News Act, a first in Canada, the Collective’s mission is to support publishers and broadcasters nationwide—from local independent outlets to major media groups, including Indigenous media and those serving official language minority communities.
The Financial Controller plays a key leadership role in ensuring the organization’s financial integrity. As a strategic partner to the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Board of Directors, this person oversees all aspects of financial management, reporting, compliance, and risk management. The Financial Controller ensures that financial resources are aligned with the organization’s mission, maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accountability to the Board and its members.
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA);
7–10 years of progressive senior financial management experience, ideally in the non-profit sector;
Strong understanding of accounting standards and fund accounting for non-profit organizations;
Experience in compliance and reporting to members and stakeholders;
Proven success in strategic planning and budget management;
Ability to translate complex financial concepts for a non-financial audience.
