Founded by Father Emmett Johns, known as “Pops,” in 1988, Dans la rue supports homeless and at-risk youth.

With dedication, empathy, and respect—and thanks to strong community support—the organization works to meet youths’ immediate needs and helps them acquire the skills and resources necessary to lead more autonomous and fulfilling lives. Today, the organization employs 100 people and relies on the support of over 150 volunteers.

The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources oversees the full HR function and is a member of the management team.

They lead the development of HR strategies and action plans and ensure their implementation. They supervise a small team of two HR professionals.

Team members are essential to fulfilling Dans la rue’s mission. The HR Director is responsible for creating and maintaining favorable conditions for a healthy work environment, fostering well-being and team engagement.

The right fit
  • Graduate-level degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Social or Public Administration, Health and Social Services, or any other relevant field;
  • At least 7 years of experience in a generalist HR role or another relevant position (experience in the non-profit/community sector is a strong asset);
  • Proven team management experience;
  • Solid experience in labor relations, and knowledge of laws, standards, and procedures relating to the application of a collective agreement;
  • Demonstrated achievements in improving the employee experience (onboarding, staffing, talent development, retention, leadership training);
  • Experience managing health and safety administration and contributing to the rollout of OHS projects;
  • Member of the Ordre des CRHA/CRIA is an asset;
  • Strong interest in Dans la rue’s mission and values.
