The MNHQ’s mandate is to showcase and promote the history of the Quebec nation, its evolution, culture, and distinct identity, while also recognizing the contributions of First Nations and Inuit. The museum aspires to play a key role by building strong connections with Quebec’s museum network and ensuring Quebec’s presence on the international museum stage through acquisitions, exhibitions, and various engagement activities.

The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administration will play a key role in establishing and managing the financial and administrative structures of the Musée national de l’histoire du Québec (MNHQ). In this role, you will be responsible for defining and implementing financial practices, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and working closely with the management team to structure the organization.

This is an opportunity to be part of the museum’s first leadership team, establish its financial foundations, and contribute to the development of its corporate culture. You will also play a crucial role in defining a charter of values that will guide the museum’s overall practices.

In a dynamic and evolving environment, you will help create structured financial and administrative processes, while overseeing the budget transition and supporting the museum’s internal culture development. As a key builder, you will be responsible for financial and material resource management, ensuring a strong operational structure, long-term sustainability, and fostering innovation and transparency.

The right fit
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Administration, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA is a plus);
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, including 5 years in a leadership role;
  • Proven experience in financial management, budgeting, financial analysis, and accounting process development;
  • Strong knowledge of regulations, government directives, and accounting standards applicable to public organizations;
  • Excellent command of financial management and accounting software;
  • Ability to thrive in an unstructured environment, with a proactive and adaptable approach;
  • Experience in managing government grants and preparing financial reports for funding bodies or external partners;
  • Experience in a cultural or heritage environment (an asset).
